Skeidar Watch Box

The Skeidar Watch Box was created as a response to the dramatic contrast found in the Icelandic landscape of Skeidararsandur - a place that’s both harsh and beautiful. This vast stretch of black sand desert, shaped by glacial floods and volcanic activity, is raw and powerful, yet incredibly striking. I wanted to reflect that duality in a simple, functional object.

I chose black Valchromat as the main material because it’s dense, strong, and has a deep tone that echoes the dark volcanic sands of the region.

To bring in a more natural, tactile quality, I carved the surface by hand using a curved gauge. This allowed me to recreate some of the flowing, braided patterns found in the river deltas of Skeidararsandur

The box is meant to hold watches, but it’s also a small reminder of the natural forces that shape the world around us. It’s about finding a balance between strength and fragility, and appreciating the quiet details in even the most desolate places.
